Are we smarter than a fifth grader.

Last night I was sitting on the couch with my 2 year old son after we came home from the gym.  I was looking down at him and he looked up and said, "Daddy, I like apples."  It's funny how such a simple, little statement can melt your heart as a parent.  It was nothing profound, just a smile as he told me he liked apples.

I looked up at the television and saw what triggered that statement.  It was a new game show called, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?  They use apples on the set, and that is what Jaemison saw that made him tell me that he likes apples.

Now the premise of the show is that most adults can't answer simple questions that fifth graders can answer.  If you can answer 11 first to fifth grade test questions you win a million dollars.  It's hilarious to see college graduates not able to do simple math or answer english questions.

Now I know how real this is because I see it every day--adults not knowing simple truths that are obvious to children.  I can take a set of fetal models or pictures of babies in the womb to any first or fifth grade class room in this country. I can ask the kids to identify what is in the picture, and they will tell me that it is a baby.  I see it all summer as parents bring their kids to the booth and, when they see the fetal models, they say, "Baby, baby," as they try to reach down to pick one up.

Now you take these same models and pictures to a group of adults and you will get the most ridiculous answers to the same question:  "a blob of tissues," "a potential life," "just a fetus." I have even heard them call the baby "a parasite" many times.  It is sad that adults have to cloud a simple truth to justify a horrific action like abortion.

When it comes to something so simple as looking at a baby and knowing that it is a baby, we as a nation are obviously not smarter than a fifth grader.  In fact we have killed over 1/3 of the fifth graders before they ever got a chance to go to school.

March for Life 2007

A weekend of prayer, fellowship, education, encouragement and renewed commitment to standing true for the Gospel of Christ and the sanctity of human life.

The photos are split into categories depicting the weekend.  Each category in its own way helps describe what the weekend was all about from prayer, to the people and to all that we experienced this weekend, we truly did Stand True.

Click on the small picture for that set of pictures. Photos by Megan Barnard and Emma Williams

The Prayer The People The March The Talks and  Outreach
The Stand True weekend was centered around prayer.  Stand True has always believe that Christ is the foundation of our work and prayer is the most powerful tool we have in this battle.

Whether is was in front of Planned Parenthood, the Supreme Court or any where else we were this weekend, we focused on praying for God to bring an end to child killing in this nation, and turn our generation's hearts to Christ.

The people are so important to what Stand True is doing.  Stand True is not just about it's leaders or staff, it is about the people who take up the vision we have for turning a nation back to God.

Stand True is not just an organization, it is a movement of people both young and old who want to draw their lives closer to Christ and see their generations hearts turned to God.  We believe that through this God will bring an end to the holocaust that is destroying God's heritage and ushering in a culture of death.  These people are willing to take up their cross and follow Christ, and help build a culture of life.

After 34 year it is a shame that we are still gathering in Washington D.C. for the annual March for Life.  However, until we see an end to this holocaust we will continue to line up for hours in the middle of winter to take a public stand for life.

Every year more and more people come and march on Washington and every year the media seems to down play it even more.  We know that one day we will be in Washington not to march in sorrow, but to march in victory as God brings an end to decriminalized child killing.

There are many ways we are able to help build this culture of life and educate this generation.  We were able to speak to many groups at the different events going on over the weekend.  We also had a couple of booths at different conferences.

Stand True merchandise is not just cool t-shirts and stickers.  We believe in putting out original, thought provoking, and educational products that will not only challenge the people who see them, but challenge those who wear them.  We want to help open doors for conversations and give people an opportunity to share their faith and the message of life.

End of the year support

Dear friends of Stand True

The end of the year is approaching fast, and as we look back we are amazed at what God has accomplished through Stand True. Just two weeks ago we found out about 14 babies that were saved because of the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity and one girl who gave her life to Christ.  With great projects like the March for Life Weekend, The National Mothers’ Day Baby Shower, Summer Tour, the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity and so much more keeping us busy, the year went by fast.

I am writing this letter in addition to our regular newsletter to ask for your help as the year comes to an end.  For those of you already thinking about end of year donations, we would like you to consider Stand True.

We have a goal of raising $50,000 as the year closes to help us get ready for a jam-packed New Year of ministry.  That may seem like a lot of money, but it would only take 200 people giving a donation of $250 to get us to our end of year goal.  In all reality, it is an extremely small budget for an organization that does as much as Stand True.

Why $50,000 you may ask?  If we raise this amount we will be able to go into the New Year with:

1.                   All of our bills paid in full.

2.                   Funds to get our van repaired.

3.                   Literature shelves completely stocked to send free materials to students

                      around the country.

4.                   Funds to launch several new educational post card projects.

5.                   Funds to hold our March for Life Weekend in Washington D.C.

6.                   Funds to launch our new video blog website.

7.                   A much needed new computer for our missionaries.

8.                   All of our merchandise shelves full and ready for the March for Life.

9.                   Plus many other small needs around the office

We need your support; your generosity is key for Stand True continuing the work that we do.  We are asking for our friends to consider making an end of year donation of $250.  If you can’t afford that, anything will help.

You can also help by telling your friends and family about Stand True and asking them if they need an end of year tax deduction, many people do.  Please share our newsletter with your friends and ask them to consider helping the ministry of Stand True.

Stand True is a 501 (c) (3) Tax exempt organization, all donations are tax deductible
